Battery Architecture for Low-Temperature Performance

Designed to preserve battery capability when temperatures fall.

Addionics' Smart 3D Porous Current Collectors help batteries maintain usable energy and dependable performance when cold temperatures limit normal cell operation.

01How it works

At low temperatures, lithium ions move more slowly through the battery. This increases polarization and makes it harder for the full electrode to participate in the reaction. As a result, the cell can reach its voltage limits before all of its stored energy becomes available.

Addionics' Smart 3D Porous Current Collectors create additional pathways for electrolyte and lithium ions throughout the electrode. These shorter, more distributed pathways improve access to active material and spread the electrochemical reaction across a larger volume.

The effect becomes more important as temperatures fall and charge or discharge rates increase. The architecture does not heat the battery or change its chemistry; it helps the existing materials work more effectively under cold conditions.

02What low-temperature architecture enables

A wider practical operating range

  • More usable energy

Keeps more stored energy accessible at low temperatures.

  • More available power

Supports high-power demands such as acceleration, climbing, launch, and maneuvering.

  • Improved charging stability

Supports more uniform charging and reduces localized degradation risks.

  • Faster operational readiness

Reduces dependence on prolonged battery preheating.

  • More consistent cold-weather performance

Helps maintain more predictable performance as temperatures fall.

  • A wider practical operating range

Extends effective battery operation across a broader temperature range.
